Absorbing and processing global events that enter our living rooms through the media: I always aim to find ways to hover over these complex situations and, through my research, look beyond the obvious. The concepts, ideas and views that come from this are mostly articulated in the form of videos and/or installations. Performance also plays a big role in my practice. I frequently use my own body to place myself in a specific context or to convey my ideas and views. Common themes are social, political or philosophical issues. I try to approach these issues by using recognizable and sometimes iconic (moving) images. Images that have certain associations or that can sometimes create expectations. I then play around with these images. I rearrange and reinterpret them in order to shed a different light on the subject. In doing so, I hope to challenge the observer to reposition himself in relation to the image.
